The records of the Courier News Archive are arranged into four series: Record types include color and black & white photographic prints, color 35mm film negatives, newspaper clippings of obituaries and articles, and ephemera. The records of the Courier News Archive include a variety of historical material spanning from 1874 to 2004, with bulk record date from 1960 to 1999. The Courier News remains a daily newspaper serving Somerset County and other areas of Central Jersey and is a member of the Gannett Group. Because there was not enough space in the new office location to accommodate the newspaper’s extensive archive, this collection was donated to Plainfield Public Library and is called the Courier News Archive Collection. The Courier News was headquartered in Bridgewater Township, New Jersey, until 2009 when it moved into the East Brunswick offices of the Home News Tribune. The Courier offices were then located at 201 Church Street (and East Second) in Plainfield. It was established as the Courier News in 1961. Gannett purchased the interests of Stout and Morrison in January 1940. After Frost’s death, in April 1927, the paper was sold to Frank Gannett, William Morrison, and Chauncey F. Franklin Fort, governor of New Jersey, and combined it with the Plainfield Courier-News.
